Our Year 5 team consist of Mrs Barnett (who is also the Deputy Head) and Miss Higginbottom who are the Y5 teachers and they are supported by Mrs Turner and Miss Hart.
We are excited to be working with our new classes and are looking forward to a successful year ahead with a creative curriculum to ensure all the children have a chance to shine.
Y5 really enjoyed World Book Day. The whole school used The DayThe Crayons Quit. Each class was given a different colour. The children rewrote pages from the book using their own fabulous ideas. Mrs. Barnett’s class wrote from the point of view of a red crayon. As you can see from the photo all the children and staff tried to come dressed in red. The children also bought in lots of red items for the red hamper, which will be in a raffle next week. The children were also lucky to each receive a book from school too. A fabulous day celebrating reading and writing !
Year 5 enjoyed drawing and sketching lighthouses last week. There were some amazing drawings from both adults and children ! Year 5 are reading a book called Song of the Dolphin Boy, much of which is set around a lighthouse. The children will be using their drawings to help them write descriptions of a lighthouse in English.Thank you to all the parents, who managed to come. It was lovely to see you all.
Y5 enjoyed participating in NSPCC Number Day, in order to raise funds for the NSPCC. Everyone dressed up in 'number' outfits and some children from Y5 AB won the number challenge - to add up all the numbers that adults in school displayed. A very hard challenge indeed !
We enjoyed beautiful weather last Thursday, as we walked to Queens Park to survey litter' hot spots'. We will analyse our data back in school next week.
Last week Y5 held the first parent art morning of 2020. It was lovely to have so many parents helping their children with an art activity. Thankfully most of the paint ended up on the artwork, which is now displayed in the classrooms ! Thank you to all the parents that managed to attend- we appreciate your support.
