A fantastic day at Sudbury Hall!

What an amazing jam-packed day Year 5 had at Sudbury Hall! From a Victorian classroom experience, to climbing a ‘chimney’ and building on our understanding of forces with toys through the ages - it was a whirlwind day full of fun and learning!

The children’s behaviour was impeccable from start to finish and the volunteers at Sudbury were amazing by how much the children already knew about the Victorian period!

    Well done Year 5!

A brilliant (yet soggy) day at Chesterfield Museum and Holy Trinity Church

For our first day back, Year 5 visited the final resting place of George Stephenson (inventor of the passenger train) and Chesterfield Museum. Despite the weather, the children had a brilliant time and were able to enhance their understanding of the Victorian era. Whilst at the Holy Trinity Church (resting place of George Stephenson) Reverend David Horsfall showed the children significant areas in the church for GS.

After this, the children braved the weather once more to visit Chesterfield Museum where they: completed a George Stephenson trail, held artifacts from the period and crawled through a coal mine like some of the Victorian children would have had to do.

The children behaved well and it made for a memorable first day back!

Improving our sketching skills with inspiration from William Morris

The children have learnt that William Morris mostly used natural designs in his work so we decided to head into nature and select some freshly fallen leaves to sketch. The children took these leaves into class and carefully sketched and shaded them before creating a William Morris inspired design!
