Our Year 5 team consist of Mrs Barnett (who is also the Deputy Head) and Miss Higginbottom who are the Y5 teachers and they are supported by Mrs Turner and Miss Hart.
We are excited to be working with our new classes and are looking forward to a successful year ahead with a creative curriculum to ensure all the children have a chance to shine.
The children have settled back into school well and our looking forward to continuing with our sculpture and Iron Man topics. A special mention to Victoria and Cindy on their home projects over the half term. We would love to see more creations. This week was also poetry week, the children have been analysing a range of poems and created their own based around our Iron Man text.
Last week the children in Year 5VC were working incredibly hard to prepare for our upcoming presentation; we used the chrome books to help us research facts and produce our presentations.
Here we are using the chrome books in the outdoor learning area that Mr. James is developing.
Thank you for all the bottle tops you have been bringing into school over the last few weeks. Today we have made a start on our bottle top display. Please come into school next week to have a look at the finished article.
Miss Truelove’s class have also been creating some sea weaving pictures that will also go on display once completed.
This week we have started our new literacy unit on persuasion so the children may start to use their knowledge to extend their bedtimes or get some treats! We have also started our new coding unit. This has involved us using Spheros, Ollies and Ozobots. The children have used their block coding skills to be able to navigate these devices. In mathematics we have been working on our fractions and we have been enjoying our hip hop music lessons!
Just a reminder of parent’s morning Thursday 14th February
Our trip to ‘The Deep’ was hugely successful. We had a great time having our own personal tour around and the children were extremely brave in the touching the creatures! We enjoyed being detectives in our workshop and had great fun designing T-shirts, making badges and creating sand postcards. Sleeping next to the tanks was such a great experience and we hope the children had as much fun as we did! Here are a few additional pictures of our trip. Thanks again to all the children in Year Five for making it such an enjoyable trip.
