SMSC

At Spire Junior School, we are committed to helping every child grow into a confident, thoughtful and responsible young person. Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development is woven through daily school life, our curriculum, and the wider opportunities we offer.

Spiritual Development:

We encourage children to explore their own beliefs, values and sense of identity. Pupils are given opportunities to:

  • experience awe and wonder through nature, science, art and music

  • reflect on their feelings, choices and achievements

  • learn about different religions and world views

  • express ideas creatively through drama, art, storytelling and outdoor learning

We aim to help children develop curiosity, imagination and a sense of purpose.

Moral Development:

Our children learn to understand right and wrong and to make responsible choices. We support this through:

  • discussions about fairness, honesty and respect

  • exploring real‑life dilemmas in stories, assemblies and PSHE lessons

  • understanding the consequences of actions on others and the environment

  • restorative approaches to behaviour

  • opportunities to take responsibility for their learning and conduct

Our goal is to help pupils become caring and thoughtful indivuduals.

Social Development:

We help children build positive relationships and become active members of their community. This includes:

  • working collaboratively in lessons and group projects in the community within Mini Police and our well-being walk

  • developing communication, teamwork and problem‑solving skills across the curriuclum through the use of oracy

  • taking part in school council, SMILERS and OPAL leaders

  • learning how to resolve disagreements respectfully

  • participating in community events, supporting charities and local projects

Children learn how to contribute positively to school and society.

Cultural Development:

We celebrate the diversity of our school, local area and wider world. Pupils have opportunities to:

  • learn about different cultures, traditions and beliefs

  • explore art, music, reading texts and history from around the world

  • understand British values such as democracy, tolerance and mutual respect

  • challenge stereotypes and appreciate difference

  • take part in cultural visits and enrichment activities

Our pupils learn how to appreciate and celebrate the cultural heritage of their community.
