Welcome from the Chair of Governors
I am delighted to take up my first governors role at Spire Junior. I have been a governor at Spire Junior School since May 2017 and was appointed to Chair in December 2017.
I am also Chair of the resource committee and link governor for literacy. I am married with a Son at primary school. My background is in Health and Social care and I worked for Birmingham city council as a reviewing, purchasing and monitoring officer for 16 years from which I can bring my knowledge of budgets and managing resources and partnership working with families and the community.
I currently work part time as a volunteer at a Law Firm charity which offers free advice and support to Derbyshire residents in need of legal advice. I also volunteer as reading support at Spire Junior School and another local primary school. Being part of the governing body has enabled me to see the opportunities given to the children to help and assist them to achieve their own personal goals. I am passionate about high quality education and each and every child reaching their full potential.
Mrs Vanessa Edwards (Chair)
Spire Junior School has a very good reputation and the Governing Body plan to build and enhance this.
Our vision is to provide all of our children at Spire Junior School with an outstanding education. We aim to promote every child’s social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. We aim for excellence in academic achievement but also highly value experiences in sports, arts and other cultural opportunities. We ensure that learning is fun.
We aim to:
- Develop the Governing Body to provide more challenge, rigour and strategic support to the Head teacher and the School.
- Develop a more visible and transparent style of governorship within the school community.
- Build sustainable and supportive relationships between governors and school staff.
- Improve our year on year attainment levels.
- To support the Head Teacher and the school in moving from a Good school to an outstanding school.
Our Governing Body is made up of a cross section of local people including Parents who freely volunteer their time. We meet at least six times a year to discuss a wide range of school issues. There are a number of areas of specific responsibility, which have allocated Lead Governors. In addition, every Governor is connected to a subject.
