Our Governors
Welcome from the Chair of Governors
Mr Martin Lloyd is our current Chair of Governors.
Hello to all parents and carers of pupils at Spire Junior School,
I am writing to introduce myself as I have recently been elected to the role of Chair of Governors at Spire Junior School. I have been involved with school governance for over 20 years in both secondary and primary education. Most recently I was a Chair of Governors for 4 years at a primary school in Nottinghamshire.
Since becoming a governor at Spire in 2023, I have been really impressed by the happy and hard-working atmosphere created by the pupils and staff in the school. Schools work best when pupils, parents and staff (including governors) work together to promote academic excellence, social and personal development and also a community focussed school. All these things are at the heart of what made Ofsted rank Spire Junior as a "Good" school. We will continue to set high aspirations for pupils and staff so that we maintain our happy and successful school.
Governors working alongside the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team set the strategic plan for the school but its very clear that day-to-day running of the school remains the responsibility of the Headteacher. Therefore, if you have any concerns, please make your first contact with school so that they can be resolved directly.
I look forward to meeting members of the school community at future events.
Kind regards,
Martin Lloyd Chair of Governors

Vision Statement
Spire Junior School has a very good reputation and the Governing Body plan to build and enhance this.
Our vision is to provide all of our children at Spire Junior School with an outstanding education. We aim to promote every child’s social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. We aim for excellence in academic achievement but also highly value experiences in sports, arts and other cultural opportunities. We ensure that learning is fun.
We aim to:
- Develop the Governing Body to provide more challenge, rigour and strategic support to the Head teacher and the School.
- Develop a more visible and transparent style of governorship within the school community.
- Build sustainable and supportive relationships between governors and school staff.
- Improve our year on year attainment levels.
- To support the Head Teacher and the school in moving from a Good school to an outstanding school.
Our Governing Body is made up of a cross section of local people including Parents who freely volunteer their time. We meet at least six times a year to discuss a wide range of school issues. There are a number of areas of specific responsibility, which have allocated Lead Governors. In addition, every Governor is connected to a subject.
