School Council
Who we are:
Spire Junior School Council consists of children from Year 3 to Year 6 who meet regularly to discuss school issues such as fundraising, playtimes and the curriculum.
What we do:
We act as elected representatives for our year groups at our School Council meetings and share our ideas, suggestions and opinions with Mrs Vernon and other staff members. The feedback from the meetings is used to improve the school environment, provision, lessons and activities.
We also get the opportunity to visit Chesterfield Town Hall and the Houses of Parliament in London as School Councillors.
When we do it:
We meet at least twice each half term and support school staff with their activities. This year, we will be working alongside the school SMILERS to support activities in school too.
Our Activity Log (2025 / 2026)
Tuesday 19th September - Applications opened for School Council
Friday 22nd September - School Council Elections - All of our candidates spoke in the hall in front of their year groups to say why they want to be a School Councillor and what makes them suitable for the role.
Monday 22nd September - School Council visited the Houses of Parliament in London with our Year 6 children. We learnt about the House of Commons and House of Lords and how our laws are made. We also got to have a trip on the London Eye!
Thursday 2nd October - Decided to write a letter about the Halloween Disco and we made this together in our meeting. We decided on prices for the event and for the tuck shop. We also decided it would be good to let people choose a song to request on the night!
Thursday 2nd October School Councillors held their first assembly! We introduced ourselves to the rest of school and shared the information about our Halloween Disco.
Tuesday 14th October - We met to update our school website and finalise plans for our Halloween Disco.
