In the Autumn term, as part of their History topic 'What does a good leader look like?' the children explored the qualities needed to be a good leader by looking closely at leaders from the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the Tudors and the Victorians. As part of their end of History project, the children visited a local charity shop, Barnardo's, to support the foundation set up by Thomas Barnado (a significant individual within the Victorian era). In additon to this, the children visited the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield to celebrate 200 years of the modern day railway which played an important role in Chesterfield's history within the Victorian era due to the work carried out by George Stephenson.

In the Spring term, the children have studied the effect of natural disasters by exploring the enquiry question 'Is the Earth a peaceful place?'. Within Geography, the children have explored the effects of natural disasters on human and physical geography. They have had a visit from Yorkshire Water to discuss the water cycle and use of water. Within their lessons, the children have made volcanoes and carried out an experiment to observe and mimic how volcanoes erupt. They are visiting Magna to explore air, Earth, fire and water!
