OUTDOOR PLAY AND LEARNING

We are excited that our school is now part of the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme, which is endorsed and supported by Sport England and runs in hundreds of schools across the UK.

OPAL play revolves around fostering child-led play, where children engage in learning through exploration, creativity, and the utilisation of outdoor spaces to cultivate their play experiences.

Children are granted the freedom to shape their own play, and in doing so, they acquire essential skills such as problem-solving, imagination, negotiation, emotional intelligence, resilience, wonder, and the formation of meaningful friendships. These skills are vital for their overall development.

We hold the belief that providing children with enriched, outdoor play experiences has a profound impact on their overall well-being and is intricately linked to their learning and achievements within the classroom setting.

We are always on the look out for new OPAL equipment! Please contact the office if you can support by donating anything to our OPAL stock! This includes coats and willies!

As our OPAL provision develops, we see more and more amazing interactions between our children happening every day. They step up to the new challenges presented to them, take responsibility for the actions and equipment and make more strategic decisions about what they are able to do!

Play Charter:

We have the right to play and enjoy OPAL.

We have the responsibility to make sure everyone enjoys playtime by making sure:

  • Everyone chooses what to play.
  • We share equipment fairly and kindly.
  • We take care of the equipment.
  • We treat each other how we like to be treated.
  • We keep everybody safe.
  • We are kind to others.
  • We help people if they need us.
  • We allow people to join in games.
  • We ask grown ups if we need help to sort out our problems.
  • We listen to one another.
  • We play safely.
