In the Autumn term, as part of their History topic 'How are our lives today shaped by ancient societies?' the children explored studied Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Greeks. They explored these two civilisations and compared to modern society. As part of this, the children participated in an Ancient Egyptian day and mummified tomatoes! Within their writing, the children created a Spire Newspaper based on the 2026 Winter Olympics and compared this to Ancient Greek Olympics. To celebrate the end of the topic, parents were invited in to participate in an Ancient Egyptian and Greek quiz!
In the Spring term, the children have studied the effects of deforestation within the Amazon Rainforest through their enquiry question 'Is the Amazon vital for existence?'. Within this topic, the children have explored countries in Brazil, the Amazon Rainforest and the Amazon River. They have investigated how the Amazon provides natural resources and how the effects of deforestation are impacting the resources available. The children are visiting Chatsworth to investigate the woodland, which they will compare to the Amazon rainforest.
